Biography
My name is Peter Ganss. I was born in Manchester, England. I am a dual Australian and British citizen, but my first loyalty is to Australia, my adopted country.
I live in Melbourne, in the state of Victoria, Australia.
For most of my professional life I was involved in managing hospitals, as a human resources manager and business manager. For a number of years I worked with the Australian Red Cross in a human resources role and also as a hospital administrator with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).For the last 10 years I have been a cycling coach. I have coached Australian champions and I have managed teams at international competitions. I have also assisted in preparing athletes for Olympic Games and World Championships.
My interest in Viet Nam is influenced by our Vietnamese family member, Dung, who is married to my wife’s cousin. She is a much loved member of our family. We have visited Viet Nam together twice and we hope to visit again very soon. I am also thankful to my Vietnamese language teacher, Xuan-Vi, who suggested I should volunteer with ABVN.
My hobbies include travelling and watching Football. I have been a big fan of Manchester United since I was 10 years old! But my biggest hobby is also my sport. I have been four times an Australian champion in my age group and I have represented Australia at World Masters Championships. Most of my success in cycling has been achieved on the velodrome (track cycling). Unfortunately this branch of cycling does not exist in Viet Nam because the country does not have a velodrome at this time. I discovered that there was a velodrome in the sports stadium at Hue during the French colonial times, but it has not been used for many years and parts of it have been taken away. A dream that I have is that maybe one day I can be involved in building a new velodrome in Viet Nam!
